Model United Nations is one of the few opportunities for truly independent study and for students to gain vital skills for their future. Students learn about countries around the world, acquire the ability to state an idea clearly and build consensus to find solutions to the global problems that will affect them in later life.

In addition to this, MUNCH provides the opportunity to meet people from all over the UK and Europe in a very welcoming environment and has grown from a local one-day event to a national two-day conference, with a very high standard of debate and opportunities for delegates of all levels of experience.

The Secretary General for this conference will be Sam Barnett and on behalf of everyone here at Cheadle Hulme School, we wish you happy and fruitful debating!

How does the awards system work?

The performance of the delegation as a whole will also be assessed and awards will be given specifically for each of the forums, as well as overall.

Delegation awards will consist of up to 3 commended delegations, 2 highly commended delegations, and 1 outstanding delegation.

These are awarded in accordance with the following criteria:

  • Accurate representation of the policies and opinions of your country

  • Submission of resolutions and amendments for debate

  • Demonstration of consensus building and intelligent flexibility in order to reach a compromise

  • Knowledge of parliamentary procedure

  • Overall behaviour during debate and throughout the course of the conference.

How should I prepare?

Please see our Information tab, which has links to documents on how to research and write resolutions, as well as MUN procedure. There are also briefing pointers for each committee which can be accessed through their respective pages.

What is the notepaper competition?

Every conference, we ask all delegations to design their own notepaper to send messages during debate. The Press Team will take a sample from each delegation and judge which one is the best. Here are some examples.

We live in a complex world. The United Nations cannot succeed alone. Partnership must continue to be at the heart of our strategy. We should have the humility to acknowledge the essential role of other actors, while maintaining full awareness of our unique convening power.
