Charity
Small Steps, the MUNCH charity, was founded by Cat Dunlop and Liz Lunn.
Cat is an Old Waconian who was heavily involved in MUN during her time at CHS, and actually helped organise our School’s first conference. She won the distinguished Old Waconian Award in 2012 for her services to Psychology and for her work in Uganda.
Cat is based in Uganda, whereas Liz is now teaching in the UK but still spends time in Uganda.
Small Steps is a charity that is based in Uganda, and runs a special needs class within Glory Be Nursery School in Buwenda. It works to provide a safe, inclusive environment for SEN children, supporting each child’s individual needs and preventing them from becoming socially excluded, but also provides an after-school coaching programme. Small Steps is committed to working with the community at a grass-roots level to empower parents/guardians, teachers and peers to support, educate and include children with disability in society. The support from MUNCH enables Small Steps to continue to provide opportunities for children with special needs. This has a long-term effect on both the individual and the community as a whole.
Over the last year, we have managed to raise £2072 from sales of African crafts and various food items. This is a tremendous achievement and it will really make a difference to the children in the nursery, who have so little.
There are no administration fees, and since Cat supports herself, all the money given goes straight to helping the children at the nursery.
Thank you for your continued support,
Olivia Jennison and Mariam Farooqi
